English for All – Book 2 is a second year secondary language course book.
It aims at further extending and developing students’ communicative abilities. The text takes into account the students’ needs and abilities at this level and their prior experience of language exposure in English for All – Book 1.
The text contains fifteen (15) units and employs a thematic approach. It integrates the elements of listening, reading, writing, speaking and thinking.
Prose passages are used wherever appropriate to demonstrate the functional use of language through analysis of grammatical structures, vocabulary and writing mechanics. The poems in most units relate to the main theme. The main objective of poetry in English for All – Book 2 is to develop an appeal for poetry and an awareness of the specialized use of language which it demonstrates.
English for All – Book 2 treats a wide range of writing functions – from transactional to personal expressive to creative writing. It also focuses on various genres: letters, narratives, biography, autobiography, film review, book review, diary writing, journal writing and script writing.
A variety of speaking and listening activities are provided throughout the text. Students should gain mastery of oral communication skills through practical exercises offered in the text. These include dialogues, oral presentations, dramatic activities, choral speaking and group and pair interaction.
